Gary Sinise
2006 Award Winner

Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor Gary Sinise has been selected to receive the first annual Pennsylvania Speaker’s Ben Franklin Award for Humanitarian Service.

House Speaker John M. Perzel presented Mr. Sinise this award at the 2006 Speaker’s Ball.

Gary Sinise was selected for this honor in recognition of his efforts on behalf of a number of humanitarian organizations including: the USO; Disabled American Veterans, and the Disabled for Life Memorial fund; One Day’s Pay, an effort to establish September 11th as a day of national service; Operation Iraqi Children, a program that donates school supplies to the children of Iraq; and the Rock and Remember Pentagon Memorial Fund.

Mr. Sinise also performs on USO tours with his rock group, The Lt. Dan Band.

Among his many accomplishments on stage, in movies and on television, Mr. Sinise is best known for his work in the popular CBS series “CSI: NY”; his Oscar-nominated role of Lieutenant Dan in the Best Picture of 1994 winner, “Forrest Gump”; as Ken Mattingly, the grounded hero astronaut in “Apollo 13”; his Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Harry Truman; and Emmy Award-winning work as Alabama Governor George Wallace.

Mr. Sinise has also appeared in several stage productions and is a founding member of Chicago’s renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

He has been married since 1981 to actress Moira Harris. They have three children.
